How we collect and check prices.
Are these prices official?
Every price starts from the retailer's own service pages, store pages or press materials, and each article links to its sources. Most chains publish starting prices and set the final price in store, so we label which one you are looking at.
How often are prices checked?
Each price page shows the date it was last checked. We re-check pages when a chain changes its packages and at least once a quarter.
Why was my store's price different?
Chains such as Petco set grooming prices by local market, and the salon quotes the final price at check-in based on your pet's size, coat and condition. If you paid something different, send us the store location and date so we can check it.
Are you affiliated with Petco or PetSmart?
No. What Pets Cost is independent and is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any retailer or clinic named on the site.
