FAQ

How much is a bath and haircut at Petco?
Petco advertises a full-service bath and haircut from $46 for dogs up to 10 lbs, $50 for 11–25 lbs, $57 for 26–50 lbs, $68 for 51–80 lbs and $97 for dogs over 100 lbs. These are starting prices; the salon confirms the final price at check-in.
How much does Petco charge for a nail trim?
Petco store menus list a nail trim at $12 and a nail trim with buffing at $18. Petco’s national nail page still shows $20 for trim and buffing, so the store price is the one to expect. The Mini Make-Rover package is $22.
How long does grooming take at Petco?
Petco store pages say a grooming session typically takes 2–4 hours. The time depends on the service, your dog’s size and coat, and how busy the salon is.
Does Petco have a grooming discount?
Free Petco Perks members get a free 8th full-service groom. Perks Premier for dogs costs $24.99 a month (or $239.99 a year) and takes 20% off every full-service dog groom or bath. Cat Premier plans get a litter discount instead.
How much should I tip a Petco groomer?
Petco does not publish a tipping policy. A common rule of thumb is 15–20% of the service price, which works out to about $9–$11 on a $57 medium bath and haircut.
How much is cat grooming at Petco?
Petco’s cat grooming page estimates $70 for a bath and $90 for a bath and haircut for short-haired cats, and $80 and $100 for long-haired cats. The local salon quotes the final price, and only stores with a certified cat groomer offer it.

Petco prices dog grooming by weight, and every number it advertises is a starting price. Pick your dog’s size below for the base price, then add only the extras you want.

Dog size Weight Bath only Bath + haircut Example breeds
X-Small up to 10 lbs from $24 from $46 Chihuahua, Yorkshire Terrier, Dachshund

How much does Petco grooming cost by dog size?

A full-service bath at Petco starts at $24 for a dog up to 10 lbs, and a bath with a haircut at $46. Every weight band adds a few dollars to the bath and more to the haircut, because cutting a bigger dog takes much longer. A medium dog (26–50 lbs) starts at $32 for the bath and $57 with the haircut. Over 100 lbs, it’s $51 and $97.

Bar chart of Petco grooming starting prices by dog size: bath from $24 to $51 and bath plus haircut from $46 to $97

Petco’s own pages add that pricing is based on the local market, and in practice that cuts both ways. Plenty of store pages headline lower starting points, “bath only from $22” and “bath & haircut from $38”. In September 2026 we found those figures on store pages in Denver, Austin, Chicago, Tulsa, Las Vegas and Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Read the national table as the typical price; your own store may start lower.

What is included in a Petco bath or haircut?

Both full-service options include the same bath routine. The haircut option adds the styling.

ServiceWhat Petco includes
Full-service bathShampoo, blow-dry, ear cleaning, gland expression, 15-minute brush-out, scented spritz, nail trim
Bath + haircutEverything in the bath, plus a cut and style to the breed-specific standard

Every session starts with a seven-point Pet Care Check, a quick screen for anything a vet should look at.

How much are Petco grooming add-ons?

Add-on packages go on top of the bath or haircut. All 13 Petco store grooming pages we checked in September 2026 list the same prices:

Add-onPriceWhat it adds
Essentials+$25Upgraded shampoo, nail buffing, paw balm
Flea Cleanse+$25Flea shampoo, moisturizing conditioner, paw balm, nail buffing
Shed Release Basic+$20FURminator undercoat removal, a second brush-out, hydrating aloe
Shed Release+$30 or +$40The basic package plus shed-reducing shampoo and treatment, teeth brushing and nail buffing; the price depends on your dog’s size
Soothe & Repair+$28Vet-developed oatmeal shampoo, conditioning spray, nail buffing
Calm & Refresh+$35Lavender shampoo and conditioner, scented spritz, paw balm, plus VIP service
VIP service+$18One dedicated stylist, less kennel and wait time

Read the right-hand column before you stack anything. Most packages already include nail buffing, and Calm & Refresh already includes VIP service, so it’s easy to pay for either twice.

Petco’s store pages say only that the Shed Release price “varies based on size of dog”. One customer with an 80-lb golden retriever reported being quoted the $40 version in April 2026.

How much do nail trims and à la carte services cost?

Small jobs don’t need a full groom. Nail-only visits are the cheapest service Petco offers, and a $12 trim between grooms keeps nails short without paying for the whole package every few weeks.

ServicePrice
Nail trim$12
Nail buffing only$12
Nail trim + buffing$18 on store menus ($20 on Petco’s national page)
Mini Make-Rover (trim + buffing, ear cleaning, paw balm, spritz)$22
Mini Make-Rover Plus (adds teeth brushing or breath refresh)$25
Face, feet and fanny trim$15
Teeth brushing$12
Ear cleaning$12
Gland expression$12
Self-serve dog wash (select stores)from $20

The self-serve wash comes with shampoo, conditioner, towels and an apron. If you can do the work yourself, it’s the cheapest way to get a large dog clean. For the other chain’s nail-only visits, see PetSmart nail trim price.

How much is puppy grooming at Petco?

Petco’s puppy grooming page uses the same size table as adult dogs: a bath for a puppy up to 10 lbs starts at $24, and a bath and haircut at $46. The published prices have no separate puppy discount. The puppy page also lists VIP service at $18 extra, which can help a nervous first-timer, since it means one stylist for the whole visit and less time in a kennel. If your puppy is due for shots before the groom, see Petco vaccination prices.

How much is cat grooming at Petco?

Petco now publishes estimated cat grooming prices:

CoatBath onlyBath + haircut
Short hair$70$90
Long hair$80$100

Petco says the final price depends on the local market, your cat’s age, coat length and the service. Cat grooming is only offered where a certified cat groomer is available. Cat nail trims are offered too, but Petco doesn’t list a price, and we found no 2025–2026 report of what it charges. Call your salon.

How can you pay less for grooming at Petco?

Petco Perks is free and gives you a free 8th full-service groom after seven qualifying grooms. On a regular schedule, that works out to about a 12% saving.

Perks Premier for dogs costs $24.99 a month, or $239.99 paid annually, and takes 20% off every full-service dog groom or bath. On the $57 medium bath and haircut, that’s $11.40 off, so grooming alone only covers the monthly fee if you go about twice a month. Premier also includes monthly Petco Cash, so count your total Petco spending, not just grooming. Cat Premier plans get 20% off litter instead of grooming.

Comparing chains? PetSmart doesn’t publish full-groom prices, but its walk-in menu and discounts are in our PetSmart grooming prices guide, and the rest of what the chains charge is under all pet service prices.

Why might your Petco quote be higher than the starting price?

Remember the $57 medium groom from the top of the page? That was a starting point, not a quote. According to Petco staff and regulars on r/petco, the base price comes from your dog’s size and coat length, and a doodle or another long-coated breed takes more scissor work than a short-coated dog of the same weight. Then the salon can add charges at check-in. Dematting takes time, and a heavily matted coat often gets a shave-down instead. A heavy shedder usually means booking the Shed Release package on top.

Ask for the full quote at drop-off, before the groom starts. And if you paid something very different from this table, send us a correction with the store location and date. That is how these pages stay accurate (how we collect and check prices).
