FAQ

How much is an exam at VCA?
VCA does not publish exam fees nationally. Its free-first-exam page, in a disclosure required in New Jersey, states the regular price of a first exam as $75–$150. New clients get the first exam free.
How much does VCA CareClub cost?
The CareClub Access plan costs $19.99 a month with a 12-month commitment, and select plans carry a $49.99 enrollment fee. CareClub Paws is priced by your pet’s age and hospital, and VCA shows the price only at enrollment. MarketWatch reports an average of about $64 a month.
What does VCA CareClub cover?
Both plans include unlimited wellness, sick, urgent and emergency exam fees at VCA, one VCA specialty consultation a year, up to $300 off a BluePearl consultation once a year, a microchip and member discounts. CareClub Paws adds recommended vaccines and age-based testing.
Can you cancel VCA CareClub?
Not during the first 12 months, except if you move or your pet dies. Plans renew automatically. VCA states that CareClub is not pet insurance.
Is VCA more expensive than Banfield?
It is hard to say, because VCA publishes no prices. Banfield lists office visits at $74.95–$95.95; VCA’s disclosed first-exam range is $75–$150. Vaccine clinics such as Petco’s Vetco and Tractor Supply’s PetVet charge no exam fee, only a per-pet fee of about $6.

VCA runs more than a thousand animal hospitals in the US. This page collects the few prices VCA discloses, what its CareClub plans cost, and what clients report paying, each with a date so you can tell a fresh number from an old one (how we check our numbers).

Does VCA publish its prices?

No. VCA hospital service pages, such as spay and neuter or dental, describe the procedure and ask you to call for a quote. We found no national or hospital-level price list for exams, vaccines, dental cleanings or surgery.

Why a chain this size keeps almost every price off the web, when Banfield puts a list online for every hospital, is something we can’t answer. VCA doesn’t say, and we’d rather not guess.

What VCA does publish:

ItemPriceWhere it comes from
First exam, new clientsFreeVCA free-first-exam offer
Regular first exam$75–$150Disclosure on the same page, required in New Jersey
CareClub Access plan$19.99 a monthVCA CareClub page
CareClub enrollment fee$49.99“Select plans” only
CareClub Paws planShown at enrollmentPriced by pet age and hospital
BluePearl consultation creditUp to $300, once a yearCareClub members only

The $75–$150 exam range is the most useful number VCA publishes. It comes from a regulatory disclosure rather than a national price list, but it’s a realistic band.

How much does VCA CareClub cost?

CareClub is VCA’s wellness membership, and it comes in two plans. CareClub Access costs $19.99 a month on a 12-month contract, which is $239.88 a year, plus the $49.99 enrollment fee if your plan carries it.

CareClub Paws adds preventive care. VCA prices it by your pet’s age and your hospital and shows the price only when you enroll. MarketWatch reports an average of about $64 a month ($66 for dogs, $62 for cats), which is a third-party estimate.

What does CareClub include?

Both plans include:

  • Unlimited exam fees at VCA for wellness, sick, urgent and emergency visits
  • One VCA specialty consultation a year
  • Up to $300 off a BluePearl emergency or specialty consultation once a year
  • A microchip
  • Member discounts

Paws adds doctor-recommended vaccines and age-based testing, such as fecal tests, with optional bloodwork and X-rays. It also lets you add spay or neuter and dental cleaning.

Specialty and telehealth consultations don’t count toward the unlimited exams, and emergency stabilization, diagnostics, medication and hospitalization are billed separately.

Is CareClub Access worth it?

With a first-exam price of $75–$150, $239.88 a year of Access fees is covered by two to three exams at the low end, or two at the high end, before counting the enrollment fee. The plan covers sick and emergency exam fees too, so a pet with ongoing problems gets there quickly. A healthy pet seen once a year probably won’t.

How does VCA compare with other chains?

ChainPublishes prices?Exam or visit fee
VCANo (exam range only)$75–$150 disclosed; first exam free
BanfieldYes, by hospital$74.95–$95.95 office visit
Petco Vetco clinicsYes, by storeNo exam fee; $5.99 per-pet fee
Tractor Supply PetVet clinicsYes, by storeNo exam fee; $6 per-pet fee

For routine vaccines, a walk-in clinic without a visit fee is almost always the cheaper route: see our Petco vaccination prices and Tractor Supply vet clinic prices. For a full-service vet with published prices, see Banfield prices, and for other chains, our pet service price guides.

How can you lower your bill at VCA?

If you’re a new client, use the free first exam. Price routine vaccines elsewhere, since a vaccine clinic charges no exam fee. Consider CareClub Access only if you expect three or more exam visits a year.

And before any dental work or surgery, ask for a written estimate. VCA doesn’t publish these prices, and quotes vary by hospital.

What do VCA clients report paying?

These are individual reports, not VCA prices, and we only include ones from late 2025 onward. Older reports, and VCA Canada prices in Canadian dollars, are left out. We found no 2025–2026 report of a VCA emergency exam fee or a spay/neuter price, so we don’t give one. The Indianapolis figure matches VCA’s official $19.99 Access price.

ServiceReported priceWhere and when
CareClub Access-level plan, one catAbout $20 a monthIndianapolis, around December 2025
Vaccines only, two 1-year-old catsAbout $280 quotedLocation not given, around August 2026
Dental cleaning with anesthesia, bloodwork and X-rays$1,300–$1,500 quotedIrvine, California, around September 2025

That last one is a single quote for a single pet in Irvine. VCA publishes nothing to check it against.
