How much should I tip a PetSmart groomer?
You want one number, what a bath costs, and PetSmart’s grooming site answers with a sign-in screen. Only after you log in, pick your pet’s breed and age and choose a store does it show an estimate. PetSmart publishes no bath or haircut prices at all.
What it does publish is its walk-in menu, its packages and its discounts. That’s what this page covers, with a source for every number.
How much does PetSmart grooming cost?
For a bath or a full groom, whatever your salon quotes. PetSmart’s grooming FAQ says base package prices “are based on breed, condition of coat and length of service”, and its salon menu adds that prices “may vary by store, breed, coat condition, day & service time”. Weekend appointments can cost more.
The walk-in services are the exception. These prices are published:
| Service | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Nail trim (walk-in) | $12–$15 | $12 on one store menu, $15 on another |
| Nail grind + trim | $19 | Walk-in |
| Nail trim + ear cleaning | $19 | |
| Ear cleaning | $12 | |
| Teeth brushing + breath freshener | $12 | |
| PAWdicure | $22 | Nail trim and grind, feet trim, pad shave, ear cleaning, spritz, bandana |
| PAWdicure PLUS | $26 | PAWdicure plus teeth brushing |
| Seasonal Special add-on | $15–$20 | Varies by store and season |
| Quick Wash | $29.95 | Walk-in bath, about 30 minutes, select stores; not for Doodles and some coat types |
Our PetSmart nail trim price guide goes through the nail options one at a time.
What’s included in a PetSmart bath or haircut?
PetSmart lists what goes into its three main grooming services, just not what they cost:
| Service | What’s included |
|---|---|
| Bath & Brush | Bath, nail trim, ear cleaning, sanitary trim, anal gland cleaning (where the law allows), paw and pad trim |
| Bath & Full Haircut | Everything in the bath, plus a full-body haircut. Aimed at coats that need cutting, such as Doodles, Shih Tzus, Yorkies and Poodles |
| Bath & Brush with FURminator | deShedding shampoo and treatment, extra brushing and a blow-out. PetSmart claims “up to 90%” less shedding |
Some extras have no published price either. The Doodle Detangling Package adds 15 extra minutes of brushing and de-matting. Express keeps your dog’s time in the salon short, and it’s mandatory for flat-faced breeds such as French and English Bulldogs, Pugs, Boxers and Boston Terriers. Those dogs are never kennel-dried.
How much is cat and puppy grooming at PetSmart?
Only select salons groom cats, with a certified Cat Stylist, and never on weekends. Services include a deShedding package, calming shampoo, waterless baths and nail caps. PetSmart doesn’t publish national cat prices, but some store listings do: the Davenport, Iowa store advertised an $18 cat nail trim in May 2026, and the West Hazleton, Pennsylvania salon menu lists a cat nail file at $22 and vinyl nail caps at $30. For a full-service cat groom, Hepper (October 2025) and Catster (January 2026) both put the starting price at $60. Petco now publishes cat estimates of $70–$100 (see our Petco grooming prices guide).
Puppies can be groomed from 8 weeks old. Puppies and kittens aged 8 weeks to 4 months don’t need vaccinations to be groomed (3 months in Indiana), and PetSmart recommends a groom every 6–8 weeks. There’s no published puppy price; puppies are quoted like any other dog. Puppy classes, which PetSmart does price, are on our PetSmart training prices page.
How can you pay less for PetSmart grooming?
The discounts, unlike the grooms, are published:
| Offer | Saving | Conditions |
|---|---|---|
| New Customer Special | $20 off first bath or groom | Prepaid; use within 60 days; one pet; excludes add-ons, walk-ins and packages |
| Senior (65+) and military | 10% off | Tuesdays only; Treats membership required; covers services and add-ons |
| Super Savings Package | Buy 5, get 1 free · Buy 9, get 3 free | Per pet; valid 12–15 months. That’s 17% or 25% off per groom |
| Salon Reward Certificates | Up to two 5,000-point certificates | Book a bath or groom in consecutive months; excludes Quick Wash and walk-ins |
| Play & Pamper | 15% off a bath or groom | Booked with Doggie Day Camp, which gets 25% off |
Match the package to how often you groom. The buy-5-get-1 package is six grooms in 12 months, which fits a dog groomed every 6–8 weeks. Buy-9-get-3 takes more off each groom (25% against 17%), but it’s 12 grooms in 15 months, roughly one every five weeks, so it only pays off for coats that need frequent cutting. PetSmart refunds unused paid grooms.
Play & Pamper only works if you’re booking Doggie Day Camp anyway. Day Camp and PetsHotel costs are on our PetSmart boarding prices page.
How do you get an exact quote?
The estimator from the top of this page is one way in: sign in on PetSmart’s grooming site, choose your pet type, breed and age, and pick your store. The other is to ask your salon, by phone or in person. Mention coat condition when you do. Matting, heavy shedding and long coats all add time, and time is what you pay for.
Either way, confirm the price at check-in before the groom starts. PetSmart backs grooms with its “Look Great Guarantee”, and a full groom usually takes 3–4 hours.
Is PetSmart grooming cheaper than Petco?
For full grooms there’s no fair comparison, because PetSmart doesn’t publish its prices. Petco does. Its baths start at $24 and bath-and-haircut at $46 for the smallest dogs, rising to $51 and $97 for the largest (see our Petco grooming prices guide, or all pet service prices for other chains).
On walk-in services the two chains are almost identical:
| Service | PetSmart | Petco |
|---|---|---|
| Basic nail trim | $12–$15 | $12 |
| Nail grind or buff + trim | $19 | $18 on store menus ($20 on Petco’s national page) |
| Nail and paw package | PAWdicure $22 | Mini Make-Rover $22 |
| Package + teeth brushing | PAWdicure PLUS $26 | Mini Make-Rover Plus $25 |
| Membership discount | 10% on Tuesdays (seniors/military) | 20% off full-service dog grooms and baths with Perks Premier ($24.99/month) |
We found no independent study comparing full-groom prices at the two chains, so be wary of any site that says one is cheaper.
