Are PetSmart training packages worth it?
If you plan to take more than one class, yes. The two-class Fundamental and Advanced packages cost $249 instead of $298, and the three-class Premium Package costs $355 instead of $447 (about $20 per session instead of $24.83).
What age can a puppy start training at PetSmart?
The Puppy class is for dogs aged 10 weeks to 5 months. Older dogs start with the Beginner class. Vaccinations must be given at least 48 hours before the first class.
Can I get a refund on PetSmart training?
PetSmart gives prorated refunds until the second session starts, offers make-up sessions if you miss a class, and lets you retake a class free within 90 days if you are not satisfied.
Is PetSmart training cheaper than Petco?
They cost almost exactly the same. Both chains charge $149 for a six-week group class and $249 for a 12-week package. Petco’s private lessons cost $249 for four 45-minute sessions, while PetSmart charges $259 for four one-hour sessions.

How much do PetSmart training classes cost?

A standard six-week group class costs $149, which works out to $24.83 per one-hour weekly session. Classes run in groups of 4 to 10 dogs.

PetSmart also runs a Trick Training class after Puppy or Beginner, but we couldn’t find its price.

If another site quoted you something different, it’s probably out of date. That annoys us, frankly. People budget from these pages, and a price guide nobody rechecks is worse than none.

Are PetSmart’s training packages worth it?

If you’ll take more than one class, yes. Packages bundle consecutive classes at a discount:

PackageClassesLengthPriceSeparatelyYou save
FundamentalPuppy or Beginner + Intermediate12 weeks$249$298$49
AdvancedIntermediate + Advanced12 weeks$249$298$49
PremiumThree classes18 weeks$355$447$92

The Premium Package comes to about $19.72 per session against $24.83 for a single class, roughly a fifth less. But if one class teaches your dog what you need, stopping there is cheaper.

How much is private training at PetSmart?

Private training is booked by the hour. It suits dogs with one or two specific problems, such as leash pulling or jumping up.

On price, they’re almost identical:

Class size is the real difference. Petco’s full price list is in our Petco training prices guide, and other chains are in our pet service price guides.

What is Training Camp at PetsHotel?

Training Camp is one-on-one training for dogs already staying at PetSmart’s PetsHotel or Doggie Day Camp. A trainer works with your dog in 30-minute sessions while it’s there, at $45 for one session, $149 for four and $239 for eight.

Some third-party sites list these as “private lesson” prices, which is wrong: you can’t book Training Camp without a stay. Our PetSmart boarding prices guide covers what the stay itself costs.

What does your dog need before the first class?

Vaccines, given at least 48 hours before the first class: rabies and DHPP for adults, age-appropriate puppy shots for puppies. If your puppy still needs shots, our Petco vaccination prices guide covers the cheapest walk-in option.

It also needs the right starting class. Puppies aged 10 weeks to 5 months take Puppy and older dogs take Beginner. Intermediate, Advanced, Brain Games and Therapy Dog each require the class before them.

What if you miss a class or aren’t happy?

PetSmart’s terms are fairly forgiving. Miss a session and you can book a make-up. Refunds are prorated until the second session starts, and if you’re not satisfied you can retake the class free within 90 days. Pay-in-4 is available.
