FAQ

How much does PetSmart charge to trim dog nails?
A walk-in nail trim at PetSmart costs $12 or $15 depending on the salon. Adding a grind to smooth the nails brings it to $19.
Do I need an appointment for a nail trim at PetSmart?
No. Nail trims are walk-in services and usually take about 15 minutes, though the wait depends on how busy the salon is.
What is a PAWdicure at PetSmart?
PAWdicure costs $22 and includes a nail trim and grind, a light feet trim, pad shaving, ear cleaning, a cologne spritz and a bandana or bow. PAWdicure PLUS adds teeth brushing for $26.
How much is a cat nail trim at PetSmart?
PetSmart does not publish national cat prices, and only select salons groom cats. Recent store listings show an $18 cat nail trim (Davenport, Iowa, May 2026) and a $22 cat nail file (West Hazleton, Pennsylvania). Call your salon to confirm.
Is a nail trim cheaper at Petco or PetSmart?
A basic nail trim is $12 at Petco and $12–$15 at PetSmart. Trim plus smoothing is $19 at PetSmart (grind) and $18 on Petco store menus (buffing), and both chains sell a $22 nail-and-paw package.

A nail trim is the cheapest thing PetSmart’s salon does, and one of the few services it actually prices.

How much is a nail trim at PetSmart?

ServicePriceWhat you get
Nail trim$12–$15Nails clipped
Nail grind + trim$19Nails clipped, then ground smooth
Nail trim + ear cleaning$19Trim plus ear cleaning
PAWdicure$22Nail trim and grind, light feet trim, pad shaving, ear cleaning, cologne spritz, bandana or bow
PAWdicure PLUS$26PAWdicure plus teeth brushing

The basic trim has no single national price. One PetSmart salon menu lists it at $12 and another at $15, so check your store’s menu on PetSmart’s grooming site or ask at the desk.

Grinding costs $4–$7 more and leaves smoother edges, which are less likely to snag carpet or scratch skin. PAWdicure pays off mainly if your dog also needs the pads shaved and ears cleaned: bought separately, a grind-and-trim ($19) plus ear cleaning ($12) already comes to $31.

Do you need an appointment?

No. Nail trims are walk-in services and take about 15 minutes once your dog is on the table. At busy times, especially weekends, you can wait longer for a slot than the trim itself takes.

PetSmart doesn’t require vaccinations for grooming puppies and kittens aged 8 weeks to 4 months (3 months in Indiana). Older pets need proof of rabies vaccination; Hawaii waives this, and some places, including New York City and a few states, have extra requirements. If a rabies shot is due, walk-in vaccine clinics are covered in our pet service price guides.

Do discounts apply to nail trims?

Mostly not. PetSmart’s New Customer $20 offer and its Salon Reward Certificates both exclude walk-in services. If your dog needs a bath anyway, skip the separate trim: nail trimming is already included in PetSmart’s Bath & Brush and Bath & Full Haircut services (prices and discounts are in our PetSmart grooming prices guide).

How much is a cat nail trim at PetSmart?

Only select salons with a certified Cat Stylist groom cats, never on weekends, and PetSmart doesn’t publish national cat prices. The most recent store prices we found are $18 for a cat nail trim at the Davenport, Iowa store (May 2026), and $22 for a cat nail file and $30 for vinyl nail caps on the West Hazleton, Pennsylvania salon menu. Call your salon before you go.

Is it cheaper at Petco?

Nearly identical, going by Petco’s menus (the full list is in our Petco grooming prices guide):

ServicePetSmartPetco
Basic nail trim$12–$15$12
Trim + smoothing$19 (grind)$18 (buffing) on store menus; $20 on Petco’s national page
Nail and paw package$22 PAWdicure$22 Mini Make-Rover
Package + teeth$26 PAWdicure PLUS$25 Mini Make-Rover Plus

If your nearest PetSmart charges $15 for a basic trim, Petco’s $12 is the cheaper option. Otherwise, go to whichever store is closer.
